Introduction to “Measuring with Heart” – A Glance Into the Kitchen

Hello and welcome to Measuring with Heart, a family oriented foodie blog focused on crafting simple, good eats (and memories) the whole family will enjoy.

Hi, I’m Kelly, a 27 year old mom of 2 who’s finding her way in this world on recipe at a time. The kitchen has truly become my place of zen after a long day at work. Yes, im tired and usually ready to just flop in bed by the time we get home, but dinner has to be made at some point! And hearing my little girl run to the kitchen, step stool in hand, every time I go to make something to eat, really makes it feel like I’ve gone full circle.

I grew up helping my mom out in the kitchen as a little girl. Mostly when it came to things like baking cookies or whipping up my dads famous mashed potato recipe. But the older I got, the more I observed not only what they cooked but how it was prepared. My mom was always on the hunt and trying out new recipes. The most memorable meal she made was one year for Christmas (or Chickmas as we all called it), she prepared 3 entirely different chicken dishes for our whole family, recipes she had never made before. One dish in particular being this chicken puff pastry stuffed with this creamy, cheesy inside – it was so damn delicious, I devoured nearly the entire plate!

And from that moment on I was hooked. Even if it never seemed like it, I since aspired to create as memorable of a moment through good food anytime there is a holiday or special occasion. Because what better way to celebrate than a plate of mouthwatering favorites, am I right?!

Now, here I am, preparing new recipes or old family favorites all with the help of my own mini sous chef. My kids always at my heels, peering over the counter or shouting “It’s done!” when the timer goes off while doing a little jig. And as frustrating as it may be sometimes when my child’s begging to help me out, I’m thinking “well I really don’t need help”, I have to remind myself to take a moment & think. Alright, I can either push her away by saying im good and doing it all myself OR I can slow down and use this opportunity as a point of connection for my daughter to share in my passion. Now she loves to not only help in the kitchen but I catch her watching ‘Next Level Chef’ more intently than I am half the time!

The kitchen has truly become a place of healing + connection for my family and I. Not to mention, all these recipes are picky eater + hubby approved and in my book, that a gold stars all around rating! So grab your apron, pour yourself a nice glass of wine and get ready to try your hand at creating something worthy of your tastebuds. But most importantly, don’t forget to have FUN with it. Once you feel comfortable, make these recipes your own and remember to measure with your heart!
