Equipment

  • 2+ cookie sheets
  • Parchment Paper
  • toothpick

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 - 3.5 oz butterscotch pudding mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 ½ cup flour
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 bag Mini Peanut Butter M&M’s, sorted into red yellow, green, and blue. can use any flavor mini m&m's
  • 10 oz package Hershey’s kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then line your baking sheet(s) with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugars (1 cup brown sugar & ½ cup sugar) and (1 cup) softened butter. Mix together until creamy and smooth.
  • Next, add in the 2 eggs, butterscotch pudding mix and (1 tsp) vanilla. Mix until thoroughly blended.
  • Add in the (2 ½ cup) flour, (3 tbsp) cocoa powder, (1 tbsp) corn starch, (1 tsp) baking soda and (1 tsp) salt. Mix well, making sure to scrape down the sides and mix again until thoroughly combined.
  • Take a large spoon or tablespoon and scoop out the dough, lightly rolling into 1-inch size balls. Place the dough on your parchment lined baking sheets and gently press a finger into the center of each one, making a slight indent.
  • Open up your mini m&m's and begin separating the colors between the 4 houses (red, yellow, green, blue).
  • Where we made an indent, fill each cookie with about 3-4 candies of the same color. Then, carefully fold the dough back over the candies and gently roll, so that the candies are fully hidden within the dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes. The edges of the cookie should be set and the center no longer shiny in appearance.
  • Immediately upon removing from the oven, place a single Hershey’s kiss on top of each cookie. You may gently wiggle the kiss while pressing down, causing the melting bottom to create a "hat brim".
  • Wait around 5 minutes, allowing the heat from the cookie to soften the kiss and using a toothpick, draw the eyes and mouth of the Sorting Hat onto each kiss. (*See notes below)
  • Allow time to cool for about 1-2 hours to allow the chocolate to completely re-solidify. Serve & enjoy on your next Harry Potter marathon and let me know what house you get!

Notes

*This recipe makes around 30-40 cookies, depending on how big you make them.
When drawing the sorting hat face onto the kisses: Try your best to use a steady hand as the chocolate will be very soft due to the heat of the cookie and can collapse or turn into a gooey mess if you press too hard.
