Crispy Chicken BLT on Sourdough: A Must-Try!

This is one of my favorite lunch time recipes! If you love a classic BLT but crave something a little more satisfying, this Crispy Chicken BLT Sandwich on Sourdough is about to become your new favorite. Juicy, golden-crispy chicken is layered with smoky bacon, fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and tucked between two slices of perfectly toasted sourdough bread. It’s the kind of sandwich that feels both comforting and elevated. It’s easy enough for a quick lunch, yet delicious enough to serve for a casual dinner. Simple ingredients, big flavor, and that irresistible crunch in every bite make this one a must-try.

Kelly’s Kitchen Tip’s

Toast the sourdough well: A good toast adds structure and keeps the bread from getting soggy once the chicken and toppings are layered on. Plus it adds a nice little crunch!

Don’t forget to season: Lightly season the tomatoes with salt + pepper for the best overall flavor.

Let the chicken rest: Resting the crispy chicken for a few minutes after cooking helps keep it juicy and extra crunchy.

Use thick-cut bacon: It adds a smoky, hearty bite that balances the crispy chicken beautifully. We love to use applewood smoked bacon for ours.

Spread mayo edge to edge: This helps protect the bread and ensures every bite is flavorful.

Customization Options

  • Swap the protein: Use crispy chicken tenders or cutlets, grilled chicken, or even leftover rotisserie chicken for a quicker option.
  • Change the bread: While sourdough is delicious, brioche, whole grain, ciabatta, or Texas toast work great too.
  • Add cheese: Provolone, Swiss, pepper jack, or sharp cheddar melt beautifully over the chicken.
  • Spice it up: Add hot honey, sriracha mayo, chipotle aioli, or a dash of cayenne to the chicken breading. Another great option is opting for spicy chicken patties for an extra kick of heat too!
  • Go fresh: Add avocado slices, pickles, red onion, or arugula for extra texture and flavor.
  • Make it lighter: Use oven-baked or air-fried chicken and turkey bacon if preferred.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips

Assemble when ready: Build the sandwich just before serving to prevent soggy bread.

Best served fresh: This sandwich is at its best right after assembling for maximum crunch. If meal prepping for lunch – pack all the ingredients separately and assemble once ready to eat.

Store components separately: Keep cooked chicken, bacon, and toppings in separate airtight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Reheat for crispiness: Reheat chicken in an air fryer or oven to restore crunch—avoid the microwave if possible.
