Kelly’s Kitchen Tip’s

Homestyle Sloppy Joe’s Tips

  • Toast the buns: Lightly butter and toast your hamburger buns on a skillet or under the broiler. This keeps them from getting soggy once the filling is added.
  • Simmer for flavor: Let the beef mixture simmer for at least 10–15 minutes after adding the sauce. This thickens it up and allows the flavors to meld.
  • Control the consistency: If the mix is too runny, add a spoonful of tomato paste or let it cook down uncovered for a few minutes. Too thick? Stir in a splash of broth or water
  • Upgrade the flavor: Stir in diced bell peppers, shredded carrots, or even a pinch of smoked paprika or Worcestershire sauce for extra depth. We love to add Sriracha to ours for an extra flavorful kick.
  • Save time & grab a bag: Nobody likes spending hours in the kitchen, especially when you’ve got little minions to feed and put to bed or all hell breaks loose. So save a little time and a lot of tears by picking up a bag of your favorite style french fries in the freezer section.
  • Crispy fries tip: For the best and crispiest of fries, heat them up in the air fryer – if you have one available – for around 8-10 minutes at 400°F or until crisp, shaking the bin halfway through. If you choose to make your own homemade oven-baked fries, soak cut potatoes in cold water for 20–30 minutes, pat dry, then bake at high heat (425–450°F) for extra crispiness.
