BBQ Onion Ring Sliders (Burger King Rodeo Burger Copycat)

If you grew up loving Burger King’s Rodeo Burger, today’s recipe is going to make your inner child VERY happy. These BBQ Onion Ring Sliders pack all the classic flavors—sweet + smoky BBQ sauce, melty cheese, perfectly seasoned mini patties, and crunchy onion rings—into an easy homemade version that tastes even better fresh off your stovetop.

These are one of my husband’s favorite fast food go-to’s, so being able to make them at home has been a game changer for us! They’re fast, fun, and surprisingly budget-friendly. Plus, because they’re sliders, they’re great for weeknight dinners, game day, or feeding a hungry crowd without spending hours in the kitchen.

Why You’ll Love These BBQ Onion Ring Sliders

15–20 minute recipe: Fast, simple, and minimal prep, you truly can’t go wrong with these!

Crispy + saucy: The perfect combo of crunch, flavor, and melty goodness. It’s like fast food, but so much better!

No grilling required: You can cook the patties right on the stovetop.

Budget-friendly copycat: All the Rodeo Burger flavor without the drive-thru. And with minimal ingredients, it’s a no brainer meal on busy weeknights .

Versatile: Great as sliders, mini meal prep, or party bites for game nights and get togethers with loved ones.

Kelly’s Kitchen Tip’s

1. Shape patties larger than the buns

They will shrink as they cook! Start with patties slightly bigger so they stay the perfect size after searing.

2. Don’t press down on the patties

It squeezes out the juices and makes them dry. Just let them sear and flip once.

3. Want even crispier onion rings?

Air-fry them at the hottest temperature for the last 2 minutes. They’ll stay crispy even under the BBQ sauce.

4. Toast the buns

A light toast keeps them from getting soggy and adds that classic fast-food flavor.

5. Use a good BBQ sauce

Sweet + smoky works best for that Rodeo Burger vibe, but personally I love a good Chipotle honey bbq for this too. If your sauce is too thick, warm it slightly to make it drizzle-ready.

6. Make-ahead option

Cook the patties and onion rings separately, store in the fridge, then assemble crispy and fresh right before serving.

If you love the classic Rodeo Burger from Burger King, these homemade BBQ Onion Ring Sliders taste even better — and come together in minutes!
Prep Time 7 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 27 minutes
Course Dinner
Cuisine American
Servings 6 sliders

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp creole seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • salt + pepper to taste
  • Bag of slider buns
  • Bag of frozen onion rings
  • 6 slices swiss or white cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Start by warming 1 tbsp of cooking oil in your skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Begin seasoning your ground beef, then form 6-8 slider sized “meatballs” (you’ll be turning it into a patty soon).
  • Once you’ve assembled your “meatballs”, begin by placing a couple on your hot skillet and flatten into a patty with your spatula. This will give it a nice sear and help the burger hold together better.
  • Let cook on the skillet about 3-4 minutes per side or until fully cooked through. Optional – With about 1-2 minutes left (after flipping), place a small slice of Swiss or white cheddar cheese on top of the patty to melt while it finishes cooking.
  • While your burgers cook, throw enough onion rings into your air fryer or oven and cook according to packaged directions. (Roughly 8-10 minutes).
  • Once the patties are fully cooked, prepare your slider buns with a healthy swipe of your favorite bbq sauce. Top with your patty, onion ring and any additional topping you prefer. Serve & enjoy your at home rodeo burger dupe!
